Layla was elected as MP for Oxford West and Abingdon in 2017, at her second attempt. She is the Liberal Democrats' education spokeperson and has also established herself as a powerful voice in the campaign against Brexit. She is a powerful and inspirational speaker and has been described by some as a possible future Liberal Democrat leader.
Before entering Parliament Layla was a physics teacher. She has an international background; her mother is a Christian Arab from Jerusalem, and her father is a British diplomat. She has lived in many countries including Belgium, Greece, Ethiopia, Jamaica and Jordan.
Earlier this year she tabled an early day motion to repeal the "Dickensian" Vagrancy Act 1824. She serves on Parliament's influential Public Accounts Committee.
Dorothy Thornhill is a member of Parliament's Intergenerational Fairness and Provision Committee and was formerly Spokesperson for Communities and Local Government in the House of Lords. She served four terms as elected Mayor of Watford and was the first female elected Mayor in the UK.
Darren is Compliance Officer for the Liberal Democrats. He deals with issues relating to PPERA, election law, GPDR and similar matters. As part of the training programme Darren will lead training sessions on GDPR and Introduction to being an agent.
Scott is East of England Campaigns Officer for the Liberal Democrats Campaigns and Election team. He has played a key role in parliamentary, mayoral and local election campaigns especially in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Hertfordshire. Scott will report to members on preparations for the local election campaigns in 2019. He will be available to discuss campaigning with candidates and campaigners during the day.
As part of the training programme Scott will also lead two training sessions on Getting Your Message Right and Planning Your Campaign.
Simon is the English Party representative on the Federal Board, which oversees the party's finances and strategy. He is also Secretary of London Region Liberal Democrats and was elected to Merton Council in May.
Sarah is one of the Local Government Association's 'lead peers'. She provides support and advice to Liberal Democrat council groups in the East of England, London and the South East. She leads the Liberal Democrats on North Norfolk district council, where the Liberal Democrats could take control next May, and is the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Communities on Norfolk County Council.
Sarah is a participant in our panel session and will be available to discuss local government issues.
