REGIONAL CONFERENCE 2016

KINGSGATE CONFERENCE CENTRE, 2 STAPLEE WAY, PETERBOROUGH PE1 4YT
SATURDAY 15 OCTOBER 2016
10:00am - 4:00pm

Our regional conference this year takes place at an exciting new venue, in the vibrant and growing city of Peterborough. Peterborough has excellent road, rail and bus connections from around the region, and the venue itself has ample free parking.

This one-day event will include policy debates, fringe meetings, training, reports, and more - including a brand-new poster room giving local parties, council groups, campaign teams and others the opportunity to share your ideas and successes. All members of the party in the region can register to attend, speak and vote.

We are delighted that Baroness (Lynne) Featherstone has accepted our invitation to be the conference's keynote speaker. Lynne was a member of the London Assembly before being elected as MP for Hornsey & Wood Green in 2005, a post she held until 2015. Lynne was the originator and architect of our same sex marriage legislation. She was appointed to the House of Lords in 2015.

The conference will include the annual elections for regional officers and committees and representatives to the party's English Council. A nomination form is available here. The deadline for receipt of nominations is first post on Friday 14 October if by post, or 2:00pm on Saturday 15 October in the ballot box at the conference.

The calling notice pack for the conference, including downloadable forms, is available here.

Regional conference access fund

Applying to the fund A small access fund is available to help improve accessibility for members attending the regional conference. Applications to this fund will be considered for (a) a reduced registration rate of £16; (b) assistance towards the cost of travel to the conference. Applications for reduced registration rates will only be considered if submitted before the deadline for standard rate registration (Sunday 18 September). Applications for travel support should be for the most economic means of public transport, or in exceptional circumstances for fuel costs where circumstances warrant this (eg disability), and where car sharing with other members is not possible. Applicants are expected to cover the cost themselves initially and to make a claim post-conference (all relevant receipts must be provided).

Contributing to the fund Any contributions made by party members to this fund are ring-fenced for this purpose only and where applicable, any unused donations will be carried over to the next regional conference. Any member registering for conference will be asked as part of their registration whether they would like to make a contribution to the fund and can do this when paying for conference. If you are unable to attend and would like to make a donation nonetheless you can do so by posting a cheque (payable to 'East of England Liberal Democrats') to Conference Access Fund (East), East of England Liberal Democrats, 119 High Street, Sutton, Ely CB6 2NW or use the PayPal donation button below.

Stewarding at regional conference

A small number of free places at regional conference are available for people willing to fulfil two two-hour sessions as conference stewards, between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm. The role includes setting up; registration; signposting; troubleshooting; and clearing the venue. If you are interested in being a conference steward, please contact admin@eastlibdems.org.uk to let us know.

The venue: accessibility and transport

Information about the venue is available on the KingsGate website here. KingsGate has full disabled access to its venue. There is a Blue Badge car park and main conference rooms are on the ground floor, with lift access to the first floor. Disabled toilets are in each corridor and on the first floor.

The KingsGate website gives details of how to reach the venue by a range of modes of transport. Please note that on 15 October rail journeys between Cambridge and Ely will be served by a replacement bus. It is possible, though more expensive, to travel from Cambridge to Peterborough via Hitchin - there are currently no planned works on this route on the day of the conference.

If travelling by train, a PlusBus add-on ticket is available for only £2 when bought online in August on the East Coast trains web site (£3.40, or £2.25 with a railcard) from the Greater Anglia website. The Citi 4 bus serves the venue from the Queensgate bus station every 20 minutes on Saturdays.
