Congratulations to Richard Foord MP

This week, the newest Liberal Democrat MP Richard Foord took his seat in the House of Commons.
This followed a fantastic victory over the Conservatives in Tiverton and Honiton on a massive 29.9% swing.
Richard is the third new Liberal Democrat MP since the General Election, joining Helen Morgan who won North Shropshire in December and Sarah Green who won in nearby Chesham and Amersham last summer.
This May, the Liberal Democrats were the big winners, gaining 223 seats across the country in local elections - more than any other party.
People are voting Liberal Democrat because we listen. We hear your concerns and frustrations. And we stand up for our local communities, our values and fight for a fair deal.
The Liberal Democrats have a vision for a fairer, greener, more caring Britain. We back our NHS to ensure it stands the test of time. We fight for carers. We understand the importance of building a better society that works for everyone including future generations.
In Bedford Borough we have put these into practice:
- Mayor Dave Hodgson has prioritised our local economy - bringing in a range of jobs and promoting ways to increase skills to open up opportunities
- The Liberal Democrats have led the fight for better health provision across the borough for instance the shortage of GPs
- Since Dave became Mayor, major strides have been made in cutting our council's carbon emissions by 62% and we have been a forerunner by pledging to achieve net zero by 2030, and
- Despite massive government cuts Mayor Dave has protected all residents from high council tax rises with one of the lowest percentage increases of all unitary councils since 2009. And, our council is one of just a small number in the country with a 100% reduction scheme for the very hardest pressed.
