Mike in the rain in SWLocal campaigner Mike Hibbs, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Saffron Walden Constituency, pictured here in a rainy Saffron Walden Market last Saturday, has welcomed the decision to hold a General Election on Thursday 12th December. The Lib Dems are campaigning to stop Brexit and build a brighter future.

Mike is a committed European. For over three years he has led the local campaign to give people the final say on the Brexit deal, with the option to Remain in the European Union.

"This election is an opportunity to put an end to Brexit" said Mike at a meeting of members. "Liberal Democrats go into this election as the biggest and strongest Remain party. We have a record national membership and our numbers locally continue to increase dramatically. We start in a vastly improved position compared to the last election. Our policies on ending Brexit, making Britain greener, and investing in schools and hospitals are all absolutely clear.

"In the Saffron Walden Constituency my three aims are to stop Brexit, tackle the climate emergency, and protect our local NHS and schools."

Mike Hibbs was first elected as a local Liberal Democrat Councillor in 1987. He is an architect and environmental protection and sustainability have always been his priority, both politically and professionally. The recent Climate Emergency Motion he initiated at Saffron Walden Town Council received unanimous cross-party support. He also started the policy of providing drinking water fountains to cut single-use plastic waste. He has campaigned to keep Saffron Walden Library fully funded and staffed; fought to keep local NHS services; and worked hard over many years to promote youth services in the area.

"As Lib Dem candidate I'm up for this fight and am confident that here in Saffron Walden we can do very well indeed" said Mike. "In the European elections earlier this year, the vote for the Liberal Democrats in Uttlesford was an historic 28.5%."
