Bromham Road BridgeNetwork Rail are holding a public information event about the works they are carrying out on the Bromham Road Bridge later this month, that will last until 2020. The Network Rail event is taking place today, Tuesday 11th June, between 3pm and 7pm at The Bedford Centre Hotel on St. Mary's Street.

As well as Network Rail, Govia Thameslink Railway and Stagecoach will be attending to answer questions.

Mayor Dave Hodgson has alerted people to the event on his Facebook page, commenting:

"With Network Rail's closure of Bromham Road Bridge approaching on June 24th, it is holding a public information about its works...

The road closure will be in place until Spring 2020, while Network Rail replace the road bridge as part of its project to electrify the line.

As I've said previously, what's really sickening about Network Rail's works is that not only will they cause considerable disruption, but we're due to get a downgraded rail service after it's finished, with the Government intent on almost completely removing Bedford from the intercity rail network under the next East Midlands rail franchise.

This is despite our growing population, the opportunities for interchanging at Bedford and our historic place in the intercity rail network.

We'll be monitoring the works closely and ensuring Network Rail does everything it can to minimise disruption and inconvenience.

In the meantime, those who are interested and can make this event will be able to ask questions not only of Network Rail but also Govia Thameslink Railway and Stagecoach, as they will be attending."
