The DentistCity's only Community Dental Practice at Parkside, Melbourne Avenue - used by our most vulnerable residents - is set to close after being taken over by Community Dental Services CIC on 1st October. They have decided to meet the needs of the population of Essex from centralised 'hubs' in the larger population areas.

From this statement you would think Chelmsford, as the County Town (now City) of Essex, with its large population, would retain its Community Dentist. People who use community dental services include:

- Children with extensive untreated tooth decay who are particularly anxious or uncooperative;
- Children with physical or learning disabilities or medical conditions;
- Children referred for specific treatment;
- Children who are 'looked after' or on the 'at risk register';
- Adults with complex needs who have a proven difficulty in accessing or accepting care in general dental services, including adults with moderate and severe learning and physical disabilities or mental health problems;
- Adults with medical conditions who need additional dental care;
- Housebound and homeless people.

Cllr Jude Deakin said "My father is just one of the many people who will be affected by this closure. I can honestly say I have not heard from anyone who was part of the consultation on this. It will be yet another service lost, and a real blow to the community." Once the dental clinic in Parkside closes the nearest community dental centre will be Witham
