A near miss and a gain in Chatteris

Last night saw two by-elections in Chatteris, The Mills, with a vacancy to be filled on Fenland District Council and two on Chatteris Town Council.

In the District election, Liberal Democrat candidate, Chris Howes, came up 37 votes short of his Conservative opponent, despite a 4.3% swing in his favour;

Chambers, Robert John (Conservative) - 301 votes (elected)

Howes, Christopher Walter (Liberal Democrat) - 264 votes

Kelly, Max Oliver (Labour) - 33 votes

Rylance, Sandra Muriel (UKIP) - 58 votes

In the Town election, the result was;

Baldry, Diane Rita (Liberal Democrat) - 324 votes (elected)

Chambers, Robert John (Conservative) - 340 votes (elected)

Kelly, Max Oliver (Labour) - 109 votes

Rylance, Sandra Muriel (UKIP) - 151 votes

Seward, Katrina Julie Lillian (Conservative) - 255 votes

Congratulations to Diane, who returns to the Town Council having served from 2003-2007.
