The Liberal Democrats have chosen a local teacher, Nitesh Dave, to stand in the by-election in Dacorum Borough's Woodhall Farm Ward.

Nitesh has taught science at Astley Cooper School and lives in nearby Highfield. Nitesh says, "I want to challenge the negative perceptions that some people have of the area and of our young people. I want to encourage the development of a community where people want to get to know their neighbours and in which they feel safe."

Nitesh believes that it is important that residents are involved in the making of decisions that affect their area and will act as the community's voice in the council chamber.

Chris Angell, who has lived in Boxmoor for over 50 years has been chosen by the Liberal Democrats to stand for the county council division of Hemel Hempstead Town. Chris is the Treasurer of St Johns Church, Boxmoor, Treasurer of the Dacorum National Trust Association, Chairman of the Wildlife Trusts Pension Fund and a non-executive director of a friendly society providing financial services to bus and train employees.

Chris Angell says, "I am standing for the county council because I want to put my experience of managing multi-million pound budgets in the service of local people by holding the Conservative-run Hertfordshire County Council to account for the huge sums of our money that they spend on our behalf."

The picture shows Nitesh and Chris with Liberal Democrat County Councillor Nick Hollinghurst. Nick recently succeeded, after a long campaign, to expose the incompetence of Hertfordshire Highways in the flawed design and implementation of the Moor End Road Bus Lane. These blunders by the Conservative-run authority are going to cost hertfordshire council tax payers nearly £1.3 million.
