Norwich South MP Simon Wright is supporting the launch of an online tool that gives young people in Norwich the 'Chance to be Chancellor'. The website calls on 14-18 year olds to set out the decisions that they would make if setting this year's Budget. Mr Wright is challenging local schools and young people to make the tough choices about raising and spending public money.
Mr Wright said: "The website helps young people to make informed decisions about this year's Budget. Should the government raise more or less tax, and how? What should the government's spending priorities be? It's a brilliant way of getting young people involved in the debate. Once ideas have been put down, you can argue your case by putting together a presentation or speech and sending it to the site.
"Importantly, all views will be fed in to a Youth Budget which will be presented to MPs."
The best Budget entries will win prizes, including iPads and a trip to HM Treasury.
The website can be found at www.chancetobechancellor.org.uk and is being run by the Citizenship Foundation in partnership with Aviva.
